Summary

Satellite constellation operators frequently experience interference to links between satellites and ground. Students will analyze data related to downlink jamming and other interference. In addition, will characterize interference and provide descriptive reports

Description

Students will complete the following project objectives: 1) Conduct research to gain an understanding of Radio Frequency (RF) interference - Learn what metrics are important to characterize interference - Learn how interference is reported to and felt by stakeholders - How do the effects of interference vary between different satellites 2) Improve existing tools including Spectrum Viewer Utility (SVU) and Radio Frequency Common Operating Picture (RF COP) - Analyze interference to LEO and GEO orbits - Deliver actionable reports to companies 3) Automate/aggregate interference reporting - Meet standards and requests made by stakeholder companies - How can the language used to describe reporting be standardized for industry
